Prague has announced its new royal pair for this year’s Majáles festival. The winners of the student vote were Albert Foglar and Tereza Valentová, both students of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport, securing victory for Charles University.

This year’s traditional Majáles parade, featuring decorated floats and candidates for king and queen, started at the Smíchov riverfront and passed through the streets along the Vltava River to Strossmayer Square. The celebrations culminated during the main program in Letňany, where the winners were ceremonially crowned.

Approximately 500 participants joined the parade in costumes, carrying banners and portraits of their candidates. They danced to music by the bands Vypsaná fixa, Chinaski, Grey256, and Refew while chanting slogans supporting their universities. The parade was led by a float from the private university Ambis decorated with green and silver balloons. It was followed by students from Charles University dressed in red and students from the Police Academy, some of whom were dressed as police officers. The parade concluded with a green-themed float from the Czech University of Life Sciences.

Students from universities outside Prague also attended, specifically from Masaryk University and Mendel University in Brno.

Albert Foglar studies in the program Physical Education and Military Physical Training Teaching for Secondary Schools, while Tereza Valentová is a student in the Coaching program. Congratulations to both winners, and thanks to everyone who took part in the parade and the celebrations.
