The Conference

The international conference Movement – the Art of Life is a regional conference of the European Association for the Philosophy of Sport. The main topic of Movement – the Art of Life is movement from the philosophical point of view, from the grounds of philosophy as well as other disciplines. We seek to support and promote the work-in-progress of colleagues and to provide an opportunity for in depth discussions. The uniqueness of the conference, then, lies in its emphasis on collegial interaction and extended discussion (each participant gets one hour for presentation and discussion). The first conference Movement – the Art of Life took place in September 2004 (see Archive for information on previous conferences).

At the moment, the conference is held about once every two years, the exact time to be chosen according to other events, and to be announced before the summer vacation.

Conference language: English

For Participants

If you would like to participate, please email the following to: movement@seznam.cz.

(a) name and surname
(b) place of work
(c) position at your faculty and the subjects you teach/study
(d) main publications (3 or 4)
(e) short abstract of your presentation (150-300 words) with main references

For information on past conferences, please see the Archive.

Publication of texts

After every conference, we encourage authors to submit papers for consideration for publication in the Charles University journal Acta Kinanthropologica. Papers will be reviewed according to the standard procedure of the journal. The journal is published in the English language, so it is advisable for non-native speakers to have their English checked.

We intend to publish a book Philosophy of Movement, which will encompass some of your work in past years, as well as including new items, of course. Instructions for text preparation will be available in the latest book of abstracts.

Costs

The fee for the conference plus refreshments is 1000 CZK (approx 35 GBP / 40 EUR), to be paid in CZK on the first day of the conference.

Accommodation and Meals

Concerning accommodation you may either find it for yourself, or write to the organising committee for advice.
For a small number of participants, we may be able to offer cheap student-type (shared) accommodation.

Meals may be taken at your hotel and/or we will make our own social arrangements.
